Richmond, Indiana, offers the balanced combination of metropolitan commerce with a hometown environment. The city of Richmond can be easily divided into five sections, each with a particular specialty.

Eastern: The shopping and entertainment area, with the Richmond Square Mall, several shopping centers, grocery stores, books and electronics, clothing, many franchise restaurants, two cinemas, and a skating rink, as well as many residential neighborhoods.

Northern: Predominately residential, the north side is also home to Richmond's community college, IU East, and the new Reid Hospital, as well as several physicians' practices and health-related organizations. The area is rapidly developing, and is centered around Route 27, running north and south above Interstate 70.

Western: The western side of Richmond is home to Earlham College, Richmond High School, Belden Wire And Cable, Sanyo Verbatim, and a number of other big name manufacturers, as well as many residential neighborhoods.

Southern: Residential neighborhoods span from the southern downtown area to beyond the southern city limits. Many beautiful new residential developments are underway in the southern area.

Central / Uptown: Beautifully maintained, uptown Richmond is home to numerous historical buildings and modern businesses. City and county offices, entrepreneurial upstarts, a wide array of shopping, and the city's night life come alive along Main Street. Much of the north-central uptown area is part of Richmond's Historical District, with beautiful homes, churches, and buildings built over the last two centuries.

If you have children, you will have no trouble finding a quality education in Richmond. With a school in nearly every neighborhood and the excellent Richmond High School serving the entirety of Richmond, your child will pick right up where he left off in your previous community.
